Adventures on Pennylope

Penelope and I haven't been spending as much time as I would like together this year.  She sits forlorn waiting for me to taste freedom from the breezes we create together.  But weather, child, work, and all of the other stuff in life have combined to make our time together short.  Mostly it has been a weather issue though.

You see, I tend to only hang out with Penny when the weather is decent.  Sadly, it hasn't been through the early part of our summer.  We had rain from one day to the next.

I imagine some might be shocked to hear this.  Yes, I ride.  I use to ride a motorcycle before hurting my back and finding long distance riding was much too difficult.  Now a bit about town is about all I can handle, and so I have Penelope.  My blue scooter.  She still gives me a sense of freedom and I still can not only see, but taste and feel God's great and wonderful world more fully.  Riding just makes you see things differently.  When you're in a car you view life from a screen.  On two wheels you are more ONE, if you will, with His creation.

So what works for me?  Knowing that whenever life slows enough and the weather is not raining or freezing cold that Penny Lope is waiting patiently for me to  venture onto her sweet saddle and experience a little bit of God's great beauty via the back roads of America.  Two wheels isn't something for everyone, but it is one way to experience a closeness with God.  There have been many a times where God has used that solitude (no phone, no other voices to disturb His voice, just the rushing wind and He can quell that noise easily) to reach inside me and make me think about something that he has been putting in front of me.

I'm not saying God is a biker by any stretch of the imagination, but I do think that when you are Christian and if you ride, you have a wonderful opportunity for God to capture your attention while on the back of a bike.  Enjoy the time.

Be safe out there my gentle friends and remember to look for other gentle friends on two wheels.

  1. I think He is a biker!

I like to walk and I've missed it the past few months due to this super hot weather we have had in Arkansas. I agree with what you experience/describe. In our house we also do 2 wheels . . . on road bikes. Lovely out in the country where we live.

  2. Awesome! I rode a motorocyle for the first time with my Dad, last month. I can definitely see how you connect with God in that moment! For me, sitting with my toes in the sand at the edge of the ocean is where I can feel God's presence the most!

Thank you so much for linking up with What Works Wednesday!
